This pristine, undeveloped barrier island is one of the few completely natural islands in Florida, and is an ideal location to study science. Students travel by ferry to Caladesi Island, where research scientists from the University of South Florida College of Marine Science lead them in an exploration of the island. Students participate in a series of field exercises, such as beach profiling, coastal plant identification, and studies of winds, currents, and velocities.

- Caladesi Island State Park is comprised of six islands with a total of approximately 668 upland acres and more than 2,500 acres of surrounding mangroves, tidal flats, and seagrass beds.
- The white sand shores of the park have been rated among the nation’s best natural beaches.
- This secluded and undisturbed island is only accessible by private boat or ferry.
