History
Education Standard: All of our history programs
were developed with state history standards and your students’
curriculum in mind. The course objective is to recognize
the contribution of Thomas Jefferson to the growth and exploration
of our nation. “A Growing Nation” matches the
following history standards:
| Example:
Students analyze the aspirations and ideals of the
people of the new nation.
- Territorial expansion
- Jefferson’s 1801 inaugural address
- Daily life of early Americans
|
Online
Learning Center: Before your students even
leave for a Christian Discoveries program, they can use
the Christian Discoveries Online Learning Center to begin
learning about history and the places they will visit. The
Online Learning Center includes hundreds of links to other
educational web sites, quizzes to test students’ knowledge,
and photos and description of Christian Discoveries destinations.
This tool deepens the learning process for your students
and builds upon what they are learning in the classroom
as well as what is experienced on a Christian Discoveries
history program.
| Example:
Before experiencing “A Growing Nation,”
your students can explore the Meet Mr. Jefferson section
of the Online Learning Center and investigate topics
such as:
- Monticello
- Thomas Jefferson Memorial
- Lewis and Clark expedition
- The Constitution

Course
Leader: Our programs are led by experts
in the field who help you students achieve key learning
objectives and challenge them spiritually through hands-on
activities and group discussions. We train our Course Leaders
to integrate your school curriculum with the activities
included on our history programs. Our course Leaders are
also specifically trained to stimulate higher order thinking
by asking students to comprehend, apply, analyze, synthesize,
and evaluate new information and ideas.
Example:
During the “A Growing Nation”
program, the Christian Discoveries Course Leader will
lead various discussions about the passages on the wall
of the memorial, Jefferson’s many writings, and
the many contributions Jefferson made to our country.
The Course Leader will challenge your child with questions
such as:
- What purpose does this memorial
inscription have for us personally and as a country?
- How do these quotes demonstrate
Jefferson’s faith?
|
On-Site
Discovery: As an accredited student educational
travel company, Christian Discoveries recognizes the various
needs of different types of learners. Through our discovery
programs, learning goes beyond the cognitive level, creating
a “real world” experience. By seeing, experiencing,
and interacting on a Christian Discoveries program, your
students will have the unique opportunity to apply knowledge
gained in the classroom to analyze their world.
Example:
“A Growing Nation”
takes place at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington,
D.C. Your students will discover first-hand Jefferson’s
physical, intellectual, and spiritual strength upon
visiting this memorial, which is an adaptation of
the Pantheon in Rome. The prominent colonnaded rotunda
features a statue of Jefferson, and its walls are
lined with inscriptions from the Declaration of Independence
and his other writings.

Journal: Discovery Journals were designed
by Christian Discoveries to further enhance your students’
learning experience during a Christian Discoveries program.
The Discovery Journals provide site information, photos,
trivia, inspirational quotes, thought-provoking questions,
and open areas for notes.
Example:
At the Jefferson Memorial, your students will select
one of the inscriptions on the memorial’s walls
and answer questions such as:
- What is the main theme?
- Why do you think this quote was
included?
|
Discovery
for Credit: A Christian Discoveries Discovery
for Credit program extends your students’ experiences
and deepens the learning they achieved while on their Christian
Discoveries educational trip. It is the ONLY program that
allows your students to earn high school credit in conjunction
with their travel experiences.
Example:
Upon returning from the trip, your students can take
the Final Course Examination for six different subject
categories, including Meet Mr. Jefferson. They’ll
be asked questions on topics such as:
- The Two-party Political System
- Citizenship
